NEOTROPICAL CENTER FOR THE BIOMASS RESEARCH
The CNIB was founded in 2008 at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, in order to develop basic and applied knowledge on Neotropical biomass, which is widely represented in the four regions of Ecuador: Amazon basin, Andes, Pacific Coast and the Galapagos Islands.
The CNIB has a collection of yeasts from the four regions of Ecuador as well as a pilot biorefinery where new bioproducts are being developed from biomass.
In order to meet the research objectives for the development of new fuels, biomaterials and bioproducts, CNIB has a multidisciplinary group of researchers that work in the areas of biology, chemistry and engineering sciences and also has facilities for the development of research projects.
